ENGLISH SCHOOLS’ COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT

NORTH WEST REGIONAL ROUND

NORTHWOOD STADIUM, STOKE-ON-TRENT, STAFFORDSHIRE

SATURDAY 24th & SUNDAY 25th  JUNE 2023

The North West Regional Round of the English Schools’ Combined Events Championships were held in Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire this year. Athletes representing Lancashire competed in all categories (Junior, Inter and Senior) against athletes from Cumbria, Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire and Shropshire.

This year, Lancashire had teams in the Inter Boys and Inter Girls categories, with athletes competing individually at Junior level. The weather was sunny on both days, however the threat of a thunderstorm was looming later in the weekend and there was some rain in the last event on the Sunday.

Athletes competed strongly over both days in the Inter age group, with Junior Boys competing on the Saturday and Junior Girls on the Sunday.

Inter Girls team finished 4^th and Inter Boys were 2^nd. The Lancashire Team were 4^th overall in the Aggregate Team Competition.

Selections on the day for the National Championships were given to Corey Middleton. Following on from collation of all the results from the five other regional rounds, the next best 9 athletes in each age category are then selected. Ryan McCaffery has been selected as one of the next best 9 athletes and has been invited to compete.

Congratulations to all our athletes who have been selected and will represent Lancashire at the English Schools Combined Events National Championships at Bedford International Arena, Bedfordshire in September.
